• While acknowledging the passing of its commander Yahya Sinwar, Hamas has declared that it will not release captives in Gaza until Israel ceases hostilities, evacuates the whole strip, and frees all Palestinian detainees.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, declared that Sinwar’s death signifies “the beginning of the day after” for the militant organisation and vowed to continue battling in Gaza until all hostages were brought home. Yet, representatives from the US have expressed confidence that Sinwar’s passing may result in a ceasefire and the release of hostages.
According to Israeli officials, Sinwar, who has been Israel’s most sought person since Hamas’ October 7 attack last year, died in an accidental encounter while on a routine ground sweep in Rafah. The Israeli military published drone footage that appeared to capture Sinwar’s last moments.
According to the World Health Organisation, Israel is preventing several medical organisations from accessing Gaza; this is the first time that a health agency as a whole has been refused entry throughout the conflict. Israel has denied the charges. According to the head of a hospital in northern Gaza, the facility is overrun with patients and struggling to deal with the rise in premature births brought on by the stress that heavy bom.
Even with the murder of Hamas commander Yahya Sinwar, US President Joe Biden acknowledges that the situation will not be resolved quickly and that ending the conflict in the Middle East would remain challenging.
“We believe there is a path to peace in that area. It will not be easy. It’s going to be challenging. But after discussions with the leaders of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom in Berlin, he declared, “We’re all on the same page.”
My colleagues and I believe there is a chance to resolve the dispute between Israel and Iran in a way that will put a temporary halt to it. That puts an end to the argument. To put it another way, that ends the back and forth.
We believe that efforts to bring about a truce in Lebanon may be possible. And in Gaza, it will be more difficult,” he continued.
When asked if he was confident about how and when Israel will react to Iran’s missile launch on October 1, Biden said, “Yes and yes.”
National security team meeting: A US official adds that after meeting with top German officials as well as the leaders of the UK and France, Biden is anticipated to have a meeting with his national security team on Air Force One to go over the most recent developments in the Middle East.
Biden will be travelling to Washington with Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. According to the official, Blinken is scheduled to visit the area at the beginning of next week. According to authorities, the liberation of hostages still held by Hamas is a top priority for the Biden administration.
In the wake of Sinwar’s passing, Biden has directed his staff to maintain in communication with their Israeli counterparts, and he is scheduled to speak with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu once more in the near future.
